Reducing TMJ Problems with Veneers
Patients will say that they do not know where to place their lower jaw because the cusps are worn down. Veneers can restore worn down upper teeth that helps guide the lower jaw into a stable horizontal position. Porcelain veneers or laminates can restore the guidance to the bite to reduce TMJ problems but only in right and left directions. Laminate veneers can now guide the lower jaw into a more consistent position but the treatment is limited. Laminate treatment establishes guidance for the lower jaw but does not gain three-dimensional re-positioning that many patients require.
Most patients with worn-down teeth have lost vertical height to their faces. Porcelain veneers can help with TMJ problems by providing a horizontal position for the lower jaw that was lost over time. But, this type of treatment is limited in how much the TMJ problems can be resolved. Treatment is available that can restore not only the worn-down teeth but the bite and the height to the patient’s face.
One of the most innovative unlimited reconstructive technologies is the exclusive Face Lift Dentistry ® treatment by Dr. Sam Muslin. It goes beyond horizontal guidance for the lower jaw, into vertical and front and back directions. Face Lift Dentistry® develops the vertical dimension (the up and down motion) and the lower jaw “front and back” positioning that Dr. Sam Muslin refers to as “three-dimensionally re-positioning the lower jaw in all possible dimensions with ultra-low radiation, complex motion-imaging tomography”.
His unique blend of low radiation technology and 30 years of experience gives him the visual viewing advantage in various jaw positions that cannot be used with the CT Scans. CT Scans from a variety of dental companies that are the new technology in some dental offices expose the patient to far too much radiation for each position. Pantographic x-rays are of no value in determining lower jaw positioning.
Seeing the position using Dr. Sam Muslin’s method, rather than just guessing is how his unique Venlay ™ style porcelain veneers can save his patient’s natural tooth structure while completing a full mouth reconstruction without needles or dental drilling. This is one of the reasons why Dr. Sam Muslin was Awarded, LA’s Best Cosmetic Dentist for 2012. He says, “Porcelain veneers can help a little with the bad bite but cannot achieve the results that most patients require to solve their deep overbite and TMJ problems”.
