It turns out that athletes or people who train extensively may have better bodies but also have worse teeth. It seems extensive work outs cause the body to produce less saliva, and even change the saliva’s composition, changing it from acidic to alkaline which allows more tartar and plaque to grow. As a whole, athletes seem to have more cavities. Don’t let this dissuade you from working out though, because this was found to happen only through extensive, exhaustive work outs.
