Over on The Daily Grind, dentist Andy Alas has a list of five things he wishes patients knew, and they’re all things most of us don’t give much thought to. Dentists are rich and have it easy, and fillings last forever, right? Think again.
Fillings, crowns, and other dental work usually need to be replaced someday. Not only that, dentistry is not an exact science, and different dentists may recommend different procedures to fix the same issue.
Dentistry is often stressful for the dentist too. Think about it – he’s responsible for the care of your teeth, and a wrong move could be disastrous. Going to the dentist is expensive not because he’s pocketing that money, but because the equipment, materials, and buildings eat it up.
Most dentists are honest, hard working people who genuinely care about your health. If more people saw them in this light, maybe we wouldn’t have such glaring oral health problems as a society.
