There’s new research going on at UCLA that could lead to something incredible. They are developing a simple test involving your saliva that can screen for things like diabetes, some types of cancer, and even neurological disorders! If the test delivers even half of what they expect it to, that’s nothing to spit at.
Saliva contains RNA. RNA is basically the bodies messenger in that it tells your DNA what to do. The test effectively intercepts communications and thus tells us if one part of the body is getting the wrong message. These wrong messages could reveal early stages of cancer or that your pancreas isn’t getting the right messages to make the right amount of insulin- basically showing you’re getting diabetes.
In fact, the more research they’re doing, the more they’re realizing the RNA in our saliva may contain more data then the RNA literally anywhere in the body. The research is still in its early stages, but with how much they are finding it is sure to have a huge pay off.
