I am proud to work with a doctor who uses the rubber dam tooth isolation technique. The rubber dam allows you to swallow and breathe normally while giving you the protection and peace of mind you deserve. The rubber dam stops the old amalgum filling pieces from going down your throat, isolates the teeth for better bonding and disinfection.
The rubber dam technique may also be used whenever your treatment requires moisture control. A moisture-free zone means your restoration will last longer without the contamination of moisture under the restoration. A dry field is critical during most dental procedures and is easy to achieve with these latex (or non-latex) rubber dams.
Furthermore, the rubber dam stops a “curious” tongue from being scraped by sharp instruments or hand piece burs. I have worked with dentists who failed to use the rubber dam and saw one too many wandering tongues succumb to the dental drill.
