If you or you child is in any sport, you should have a mouth guard. While this may seem obvious, many children still don’t wear them when playing contact sports like football, or sports like soccer and/or baseball where one ball to the mouth can make all the difference. You would think we’d all learn from seeing hockey player just how important mouth guards are. Even worse, almost no adults who play in sports use mouth guards when they should. Yes, if you have a softball team you should be wearing a mouth guard. Whether getting hit by a ball or colliding while sliding into second, there are a lot of risks to your teeth out there.
When it comes to mouth guards you can get the most effective kind from your dentist. These mouth guards are custom and protect you against most falls and/or collisions. The next best option is a mouth-formed mouth guard which can be purchased in a store. You warm the guard and get an imprint of your teeth in them, they are more comfortable and effective than ready-made mouth guards, but not as good as the custom. The, of course, there are the ready made available most anywhere. They are much better than nothing, but leave much to be desired in comfort and protection.
Any one you choose, you should never underestimate the importance of mouth guards.
