Can I have Lumineers with an Underbite?
Dr. Sam Muslin Answers: The key element is not if you can have Lumineers with an underbite correction . The key element is if the dentist you choose can really correct or at least improve the underbite with Lumineers.
Keep in mind that almost every cosmetic dentist thinks they are the best underbite correction cosmetic dentist and will cheerfully tell you that they can treat your underbite with Lumineers. When you see the results, you may be very unhappy, not because of the Lumineers but because it just looks bad and you cannot chew.
There is a lot more to underbite correction than the type of porcelain or the lab that makes the porcelain such as Lumineers. Underbite correction requires a dentist skilled in bite correction and improving the TMJ or jaw position. The key to underbite correction in my office has been getting the lower jaw to reposition itself without surgery in order to improve the facial profile of the patient. Getting the jaw into a better position is far more important than Lumineers or any other dental lab as Da Vinci Studios. Far too often the Lumineers become the focus when they are just a very minor part of the equation.
There are many types of porcelain that may actually be better than Lumineers for your particular situation. The best cosmetic dentist knows his porcelain veneer varieties. There is no difference in price between any type of porcelain veneer material that the patient may want or need in my office. Lumineers cost the same as Vivineers, feldspathic, CEREC and E Max.
The key to having underbite correction is finding a dentist that has experience and success in treating underbites and has the photos to prove it. See the following page:-
