When the Loveland Water Department reworked their treatment center they actively and knowingly turned off the fluoridation of the water without consulting the town beforehand. When they kicked it back on eventually, they did so at half the former levels. Why does this matter? Fluoride is found in groundwater, and our bodies before the advent of any kind of water systems adapted to it to the point where we use it to strengthen bones and teeth- a very important and in these days cost-saving function. Without the fluoride, teeth get weaker and more susceptible to cavities, and unlike our ancient ancestors who lacked any form of refined sugar- and had far less natural sugar- we need all the help we can get.
This is part of a disturbing trend. Though the water department did it as a cost saving measure, some people are trying to get rid of fluoride altogether because of misinformation that it causes some sort of brain damage or cancer. The fact is, it is an essential nutrient we sued to get naturally by drinking groundwater but now, with water treatment, absolutely need it added. Read more about the town here-
