Fads come and go, but unfortunately some bad ones come back. In ancient South American cultures they had developed pretty advanced dental practices given their technology and when they were around, one of which was adding gemstones to teeth. Yes, much like the stereotypical rapper, they blinged out their teeth. This fad has come and gone over the years- Kanye West, for example, had diamonds on his teeth no too long ago. The fad faded for awhile, but it’s coming back and guess what- it’s not good for your health!
As usual, when you put something into your mouth that oughtn’t be there, you get another surface for plaque to cling to. Additionally, they can cause gum disease, direct tooth damage, and eventually tooth lose. As this fad sweeps through again, if you are dead set on blinging your teeth, find an actual dentist to do it! A dentist will know how to install the jewelry so as to have as little impact on you mouth health as possible.
