Recently Dr. Oz on his show promoted a natural whitening solution for your teeth. The secret to whitening, he said, was a fruit mixture. Basically it’s mixing baking soda with strawberries to naturally and safely whiten your teeth, and while baking soda is actually good for your teeth, the mixture simply doesn’t work. And it’s not just doctor Oz who was supporting it, he was simply the biggest name. No, there are dozens of YouTube videos proclaiming this dental miracle. So why is this getting promoted?
This myth that the concoction whitens is pushed on because part of the deal is that you brush your teeth three times a day with it- one time more than most people do. The brushing removes surface plaque as brushing always does, but done three time a day people attribute the results improperly. According to researchers, the mixture does not penetrate deeply enough to actually whiten at all.
In fact, the the fruit in the mixture weakens the surface of teeth making them more prone to acids. Read more about this now debunked teeth whitening method here.
