What is a dental implant? That’s a question many of us have. The short and sweet answer is that dental implants are the way to go for tooth loss, and though they are impressive there are still a few issues.
When you lose a tooth via some form of trauma (for me a hockey puck) or through gingivitis you need to have the tooth replaced or you’ll have some more serious problems on hand. Fake teeth are on solution, but by far not the best. An implant is effectively a tooth that gets screwed into the bone to make it stay, and though it sounds painful, it is the only way to replace a tooth that is almost as good as the real thing. Problems only typically come up when one doesn’t take care of their teeth afterward. Root canals or problems with other teeth are the leading cause of implant failure so it’s even more important to be dental health conscious with an implant. The best advice from dentists? Don’t skimp out on cheap implants of jury rigged fixes- a high quality implant will last you for life.
