There are so many thing to remember about your health when you’re pregnant. There’s all the vitamins, what exercise you need, what you need to avoid, breathing, stress, the list is endless, but what many women forget is that you still need to go to the dentist. As is turns out, the same bacteria that is in your mouth can effect your other organs and your baby!
Dentists now agree that it is okay, and in fact advisable for you to go to your regular check up. That said, avoid any non-vital medications or treatments before you are late in your term. The reason to go is to contain the damage and infection caused by things like morning sickness. One way to mitigate this is to not brush after vomiting, but instead wash out you mouth with a teaspoon of baking soda in water. This cleans your mouth without adding to the erosion. Eating protein rich foods reduces morning sickness, thus helping you, your baby, and your teeth overall. Also, despite the cravings, try to substitute fruit for sweets, as that’s what your body actually wants.
